Johnson Criteria: A set of rules (criteria) used to define how objects are classified as ‘detected’, ‘recognized’, and ‘identified’.  As a general approximation (for detection), 2 pixels on target give detection by a human observer, at a 50% confidence interval (i.e., 50% of the time).  More advanced models & criteria are gradually being introduced, but the Johnson Criteria still retains wide usage.
